6.1 Song Form // Lesson Plan
LESSON OBJECTIVE
Students will be able to identify the sections, phrase lengths, and harmonic texture of a pop song.

PREPARATION
Introduce the sections of pop song form by reading through the song section descriptions in the Learn section.
Listen to student and teacher selected music and have students write down the song sections that they hear. Pay close attention to the harmonic texture in sections that are repeated.
Practice counting phrases by listening to a section of a song together using the method highlighted in the Listen section.
Have student work independently or in partners on charting out the song form to the template audio in the Soundtrap score.
Give them time to record a narrative of the song sections and harmonic texture using an audio track.
Assessment
Have students present their song analysis for the class by showing the named regions and by playing the narrative.
