LESSON OBJECTIVE
Students will be able to divide the beat evenly into two, three, and four equal parts.
PREPARATION
Introduce the subdivision levels of eighth note, eighth note triplet, and sixteenth note by watching the video examples of each level in the Learn section.
Practice saying the subdivision syllables along with a metronome as a class.
Pay special attention to keeping the eighth note triplet even, students will over make the second division slightly longer.
Find examples of different subdivision levels in student selected songs.
Have students use the flashcards in partners or small groups to practice hearing the different levels of subdivision.
Give students time to work through the subdivision workout videos in the suggested sequence.
Assessment
Assess student’s ability to subdivision eighth note, eighth note triplet, and sixteenth note triplet using the subdivision assessment video in person.
Play the video and have students perform in person.
Alternatively, you can have them record the assessment.
Give feedback immediately.Go through the rubric with the students together and have them identify which subdivisions they performed evenly and which ones they performed unevenly.
