PREPARATION

  • Watch the video examples for the octave jumps and leading tones in the Learn section.

  • Listen for octave jumps and leading tones in the bass lines of teacher and student selected music.

  • Have students add octave jumps and leading tones to their 3.3 organizer. This should be done as a save-as project

  • Have students add octave jumps and leading tones to their 3.3 project by having them re-record the bass line or by having them add them in using the piano roll.

Assessment

  • Check to make sure that the octave numbers of the jumps are correct, that there aren’t too many octave jumps, and that the lower octave is used most of the times in the graphic organizers.

  • Conference with students individually or have them present their drum and bass compositions to the class.

  • Go over the rubric with students and give meaningful, in-person, feedback immediately after their conference or presentation
